Computer Forum / Re: Windows sucks, but everybody uses it?
« on: May 12, 2010, 09:40:30 AM »
Never had a problem with any windows OS or software. They had a monopoly in the late 90's over apple mac. Until mac sorted themselves out with a great marketing campaign and some great products. This being said now the market share for mac is growing I'm sure they will encounter the same problems that windows supposedly had with programs being written badly.

As i said I've never had a problem with windows but then i house keep mine all the time. I just love working with Linux but you kind of need to know what your doing.

Google / Re: Is Google the Next Microsoft and Microsoft the Next Apple?

If you care about the slightest bit of your privacy, stop using Google products. But there are a lot of fools/fanboys who aren't aware of this issue. I would say Google is the next Apple. They'll throw out products with the title "Google" in it, just like how Mac throws an "i" or "Mac" in their products [e.g. iPhone, iPod, iPad, iMac] and you'll get a swarm of fools using the products because it's trendy.

« on: January 12, 2010, 11:03:31 AM »
Seen where Google Chrome has gotten to? Now added Scripts and Addons. In addition, they have now added a COOL bookmark sync. The bookmark sync is used to take your bookmarklets where ever you go with just a Google Account. This is not the end. Firefox should site there and relax thinking they have the best browsers.

Computer Forum / Browsers: brief reviews
« on: December 21, 2009, 12:27:25 PM »
I've used Firefox since the day it came out and loved it...until it started growing fatter than a Christmas turkey on steroids. Firefox jumped the shark at version 3.0.

Firefox is morbidly obese at 75MB on my hard drive (with only 6 addons and zero themes). Firefox is the new IE.
Opera is a svelte 15 MB on my hard drive and it runs like a Deere!

Click on Firefox, go make a sandwich, wash the dishes, take a leak and when you get back you're lucky if the behemoth has finally loaded.

Click on Opera and in a split second you're surfing.

Opera is the most configurable browser in existence without the need for third party addons that create a plethora of conflicts, bloat and crashes. Without the addons, Firefox is nothing more than a portly doorstop.

Opera users are tweakers and tinkerers who like getting under the engine to give the browser a bit of their own personality. Thrifty, intelligent, elegant people use Opera.

Chrome might be fast for the large beast it is, but it is minimally configurable. It doesn't even have mouse gestures for Pete's sake! Are we in the dark ages or what?

Safari is the porcine basterd love child of a company that gave us the proprietary ipod! The compressed setup file alone is 30 bovine MBs. I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than use an Apple product.

Still using XP and I'm keeping it that way until I hear that Win7 can run most of the programs I use.

Win 7 Pro has XP mode - made to run XP programmes. Found that out after pre-ordering Win 7 Home Premium >.< I have been on XP Pro 32 for past 3 years..

Well saved £100 and will cost me £100 odd to upg to Ultimate so cant complain IMO...and we get 64 bit and 32 bit verisons of the OS (2 disks) = WOOP

Microsoft / Re: Linux or Windows?
« on: June 17, 2009, 03:11:15 AM »

Hi everyone !
Lately, i have been really considering switching to Linux.
I have done a little bit of research on my own about Linux.
I am somewhat familiar with what Linux is about.

I am sure there are a few Linux People in here.
If you are that person ...

1. What made you decide to use Linux
2. Do you Dual Boot with Windows as well?
3. How long did it take for you to get the hang of it?
4. 1 - 10 .. 10 being the hardest .. for a person with no Programming experience.. Rate how hard it would be for a beginner to use Linux for the everyday tasks.
5. Do you have a favorite Website you recommend for Linux?
6. What version are you using and why?
7. What version do you recommend for a beginner?
8. Anything else you want to add that may be of interest ?

1. Viruses made me decide to use linux.
2. NO
3. 2 days
4. 1
6. Ubuntu 8.10 coz its the latest and it supports if not all, almost all devices.
7. Ubuntu 8.10
8. Linux nowadays is very easy to use and install coz they“re using (GUI) Graphical User Interface. Linux is free. You can download ubuntu or request cd and they will ship it to you for free.
