Web Directories / How Can I Protect My Directory From "Stealers"?
« on: April 01, 2008, 05:36:51 AM »
Hi,

I'm a super newbie to this kind of thing but am going to great effort to build a comprehensive local directory, from retailers to piano teachers, and I don't want my database to be "ripped off" by a copycat site or anyone else on the web.

I know for a fact that there is a national cookie-cutter site that poses as a "local" site but in fact simply crawls and/or copies content from local sites, yellow pages, etc and serves it on their pages. They will be delighted when they discover my site, I'm sure. And at the end of the day, it's all public information - I get that. But is there a way I can at least make it really difficult for them to rip off my data?

JavaScript / Scripting <a href=>
« on: August 23, 2007, 02:27:16 AM »
I need to append a string to url's being referenced in an HREF. This is on a CF page and I want to pass along the same query string that was passed in to this page. The reason I want to use a JavaScript function is that the query string may be several hundred characters and there may be several hundred links on the page, and I want to limit the size of the page generated.

Without using JavaScript this looks like:

...
<cfloop query="q">
<a href="mypage.cfm?item=#q.itemnum#&#cgi.query_string#">#q.name#[/url]
</cfloop>
...

I figure that I'd expand cgi.query_string using CF within a JavaScript function so that this text is included only once in the html generated for the page. Any ideas how this can be done?

Thanks,
David

Google has stopped issuing new API Keys. Is there any replacement by Google to query Google index for back links count and index pages? Would the AJAX search key work?
