Google / Google Tips and Tricks
« on: June 05, 2009, 09:34:11 AM »
Hi... A lot of people don't know about these great features on Google:

Type in '2+2' or '2 plus two' or any sum and the calculator will give you the result.

Type in 'define' followed by a word or a group of words. Google will give you an accurate definition.

Currency Conversion
Type in '$5 in ' and the $5 will be converted to Yen.

Type in 'Weather London' and Google will display the forecast for the next few days.

Street Maps
Type in a full address and Google will display it on a map.

Site Search
Type in a keyword, followed by 'site:' and a full URL of a website. Google will search for that keyword in the site you entered.

Search By Number
Simply enter a number, such as a UPS or ParcelForce ID and Google will return the latest information about your package.

I'm Feeling Lucky Button
Google will automatically redirect you to the first result in your query.

Filetype Search
Enter a keyword, followed by ':' and it's filetype. Google will display results related to the keyword and in the filetype you entered. You can also view the results in HTML.

PHP / PHP File Upload Validation
« on: January 02, 2009, 11:20:06 AM »
Hey guys,

Can somebody please explain to me, or help my solve this issue -

basically the following code works fine and allows you to only upload a .docx file but i want to allow for a lot more file formats.
Code: [Select]
if (!empty($file)) {
                $size = filesize($file);
                $filename = stripslashes($_FILES['upload']['name']);
                $extension = get_extension($filename);
                // Check file size and if file size is greater than allowed value create an error
                    if ($size > $maximum_file_size) { $errors[6] = "File must be under 10 Megabytes, please select a smaller file"; }
                // Now check the file format is permitted for upload, if not display an error
                    if ($extension != "docx") { $errors[] = "Invalid file type (.{$extension}) - please upload either a .doc, .docx, .pdf, .rtf, .txt, .xls, .xlsx, .csv, .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, .zip or .rar"; }

but this code dosen't work:

Code: [Select]
if (!empty($file)) {
                $size = filesize($file);
                $filename = stripslashes($_FILES['upload']['name']);
                $extension = get_extension($filename);
                // Check file size and if file size is greater than allowed value create an error
                    if ($size > $maximum_file_size) { $errors[6] = "File must be under 10 Megabytes, please select a smaller file"; }
                // Now check the file format is permitted for upload, if not display an error
                    if (($extension != "docx") || ($extension != "doc")) { $errors[] = "Invalid file type (.{$extension}) - please upload either a .doc, .docx, .pdf, .rtf, .txt, .xls, .xlsx, .csv, .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, .zip or .rar"; }

I've spend hours on trying to solve this problem but i just can't work it out! I know it's probably something really stupid and simple but i can't seem to find the problem any help would be appreciated!

Search Engine Optimization / Google/Yahoo Sitemap parsing timeframe?
« on: April 01, 2008, 03:55:00 AM »

We're not SEO focused, and while I've done some googling to find the answer nothing is really defiant on this question:
How long until you start seeing links from sitemaps indexed within Google/Yahoo?

Last week I submited gzipped xml sitemaps to both Google/Yahoo, a total of 4 sitemaps with the first one having our priority links (home, about, contact etc, around 20 links) and the other three have 25,000 links within each. All formating of the xml is approved (by both Google/Yahoo) so I'm just curious to know how long others have waited until they start parsing/including these within the index.

My client has a launch date of this summer so I'm HOPING everything is fully indexed by then. We still have about 500,000 more links to include in sitemaps
