What Windows 7 has that Windows XP doesn't have?
« on: September 07, 2009, 03:14:55 AM »
This year big question is : What Windows 7 has that Windows XP doesn't have ?
Personally I'm using Windows XP SP3 and I'm satisfied with it's performance , security , easy interface (you can customize it ) , it opens all known new programs that Windows 7 opens etc.
The main difference is the "New Taskbar"with Start Menu and also don't forget minimum system requirements :
1 GHz processor ,
1GB of RAM ,
DirectX 9 graphics device with 128 MB of graphics memory ,
16 GB of available disk space and DVD drive !!!

They say that Windows 7 is faster than Windows XP !!!

Windows XP SP3 minimum system requirements are :
•233 megahertz (MHz) processor
•64 MB of RAM
•Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher resolution
•2 GB of available hard disk space during installation
of course CD-ROM.

One thing I admit about Windows 7 : it's optimised for latest dual core CPU and quad core CPU which you have to buy the latest PC hehheheheh.
Money , Money , Money it's not funny !!!

Also in both of them you have to buy or "borrow" from warez sites , a very good antivirus and a spyware remover for protection !!!

In functionality both are the same .
For example watch the computers that KONAMI uses for creation of Pro Evolution 2010 :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCNlC_3SL5E

Why they don't use Windows Vista or Windows 7 for creation of Pro Evolution 2010 ?
Will Windows 7 fail like Windows Vista ?
Do you remember the time when Microsoft advertised Windows Vista but after 1 year all Vista users where disappointed ?
Remember Windows Vista as a lesson.   ;D  ;D  ;D

Tell me : which is faster , better and secure ?
Tell us your opinions and discuss so that we can make clear for other members which Windows Edition is better for them.

i love Windows 7 and Vista, they are both good after you are up to date, I don't say that XP isn't good.

I have all 3 installed, and I use Windows 7 for faster usage of my PC. I have to admit that it is a bit faster.

My Specs are:
Intel Core 2 Quad 2.97GHz
4GB DDR2
1.5GB ATI HD 3400 Series

Although if i had to compare the fastest and to make a top it would be like this

1. Windows 7
2. Windows XP
3. Windows Vista

I have to mention that I use Windows 7 Ultimate 6.1.7600 Built 7600, Windows XP Professional SP3 and Windows Vista Ultimate SP2.

All in 64 bit or x64 (i don't know how you know it)

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/get/system-requirements.aspx

I am the same as you chitika, I am happy with the performance XP SP3 gives me. Reading your OP I did not realise that Win7 was built to Quad core and Duels, this makes me more keen as I have a Phenom II x4 940 Black Edition quad core and want to get everything I can out of it. A friend owns a program called tiny7. You may recall other programs made by the company from the UK like tinyXP and tinyVista. As the name says these are all smaller versions of the OS that do not need serials, no cracks and are 100% update-able. Anyway I am considering trying Tiny7 if it will let me get what I can out of the quad core. I think some more research is required.

The question for you is, have you got any facts or evidence to support you claims of speeds in comparison to other OS's?

I like Vista very much, but I can't wait for an official release of Windows7.

Xp is old news people. I work on machines all day and i'd much rather work on a Vista Machine than xp. There are a few reasons why I don't like Xp much, one reason is it's not as informative when you do things like Vista. Windows& will be good in that reguard too.
I have 4 machines connected to my home network and only enjoy working with my Vista machine, not so much the XP. Although there is nothing wrong with Xp, it's just not for me.

been using windows 7 for about 9 months now without a single glitch, granted i have been updating builds, but it hasnt skipped a beat, unlike XP, had soo many problems with that and it isnt suprising given that the base OS for it is windows NT 4.0, not even had a BSOD now thats sumthing amazing for M$ & for a beta OS

windows 7 uses about 1.1GB RAM with my current specs

Intel i7 920
Asus PT6-SE X58
6GB Corsiar DDR3 RAM
Nvidia GTX275

but with my previous machine it uses about 700mb RAM

Intel Core 2 Duo E6320
Asrock 4core Dual-VSTA
2GB Corsair DDR2 RAM
8800GTS 320MB

And with my old AMD machine it uses about 500MB RAM

AMD Sempron 1.8GHz
Gigabyte MB
1GB DDR RAM
Nvidia FX5200

so i guess it eats ram based on ur spec now, not just on what it wants ;D

something is wrong with people that believe that Windows 7 is faster...
It's normal to be faster on a high-end machine like cainy1989 and okz .
So another question is which is the minimum of RAM memory that Windows 7 requests to install ?

So the logic of Windows 7 is :
high-end PC = faster Windows 7
low-mid-end PC = SLOW Windows 7

In the case of Windows XP :
high-end PC = faster Windows XP
low-mid-end PC = fast Windows XP.

this "XP Centric" reminds me when the first time WinXP launched at 2002... most of the people said that why we should change to XP if Win2000 could give you all you need.

now we're on the future, the XP days will soon come to an end and Win7 will rule the microsoft windows based market.
